Our Purpose:
“Westview Baptist Church exists to bring glory to God as a community of faith in Western Sydney.” Our Mission: “to make passionate disciples of Jesus.” Our Core Values: Bible centred teaching; Loving one another; Becoming more like Jesus; Life as worship; Prayer; Making Jesus known. |
Our Vision:
In our healthy church where the truth gives birth to worship and fruitful living,
we see:
People wholly dependent on God in prayer,
The gospel transforming the lives of those around us,
Each person using their God-given gifts,
Leaders being raised for ministry,
People being sent in partnership.

we see:

People being sent in partnership.
Our purpose is to bring glory to God.
We will do this as we:
1. Are transformed by enjoying Christ;
2. Love by serving others; and
3. Proclaim Jesus by faithfully living in a fallen world
Our six objectives for our church community:
1. To promote and provide for the worship of Almighty God Father,
Son and Holy Spirit.
2. To promote and provide for the effective teaching and study of the Scriptures
in order to know God and conform our lives to his will.
3. To encourage the ministry of each member for the benefit of all and for the building up of the Body of Christ.
4. To demonstrate and declare to the people of our community and acquaintance the love of God and the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
5. To encourage the lost of all nations to obey God's command to repent and believe the Gospel.
6. To encourage the planting of Bible based Christ centred churches in other places.
Who are we?
The reason we exist is to direct the minds and hearts of all people to God our Creator, and make known the relationship we can have with Him through the saving work of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
The faith community of Westview are a "people learning to live Jesus' way", a journey of faith we would encourage everyone to undertake. If you can join us on Sunday, you will be most welcome
Westview is a group of people from a variety of nations, languages and experience who gather together to learn from Jesus Christ our Lord whom God the Creator has appointed to rule over heaven and earth.
We believe that our Creator God raised His Son Jesus Christ from the dead, placing Him as Supreme Ruler over all creation. The best way that we can respond to Jesus is to acknowledge what God has done for us through Jesus, and live our lives in line with His teachings.
Therefore, we are "people learning to live Jesus' way".
Where do we come from?
We come from all walks of life within the community. A quick survey of our church family would show people who are married, single, widowed, separated or divorced. Those who work and those who are on unemployment benefits. The young and the elderly. People who have arrived here making Australia their home, and others who were born here. Westview is a cross-section of the general community.
What to expect?
When you visit Westview for the first time, you may not know what to expect. This can often cause anxiety and may put people off attending. To lessen this problem, we would like to give you a snapshot of what you might expect to happen on a normal Sunday morning.
Beginning at 9:30am we worship as we sing God's praises, share in communion, catch up with the families' news,
then turn to the Bible to continue learning what Jesus taught, so that we are people learning to live Jesus' way.
At this time we have a Kids talk during the service and love to have children present with us in our services.
We formally conclude between 10.45 and 11am, then have time for a cuppa when we are free to chat with each other to catch up on our week.
We see that this too is a part of our morning worship, as it is a time when we are involved in one another's lives.
What we believe?
The church and its members individually hold the following doctrines:
All members should share their views with the church in humility and love, while at the same time accepting that others may differ from them, so that no harm is done to the unity of the Spirit or the bond of peace.
Why this way?
Our church wants our Sunday gathering to reflect the essential features of our way of life:
We seek to encourage one another in faith and obedience to God and to share both our blessings and our burdens. Together we are "people learning to live Jesus' way".
We do not take up a collection.
It is not the task of our guests to support the church, but those who are committed to our church community.
One general complaint leveled at churches is that they seem only to be interested in raising money.
We have no passing of the plate in our service.
We do have a small box on the notices table in which people can place money. The money that is deposited then goes to meet the church's running costs and the needs of people for whom the church seeks to show their care.
The Westview Story (in brief)
This community of believers had two beginnings: one was with the open-air Sunday Schools in the early 60’s conducted by Harold English, who later donated the land where our building now stands; and the other was the Baptist fellowship which began in August 1978 in the home of Allan and Sue Hollyock, in Joseph Banks Drive, Kings Langley, with a group of about 30 adults and children, and which became Kings Langley Baptist Church.
In 1989, the Baptist Union was considering closing down the Doonside church, which had dwindled to a handful of faithful members, and as an alternative an approach was made to the Kings Langley church – which already had a second congregation in Quakers Hill – to see if its members would consider a merger. After a year of careful discussion between the two groups, this merger took place in December of 1989, and a collective name was adopted at that time: Westview – a Vision for the West.
For six years, the three Westview congregations – Doonside, Kings Langley, Quakers Hill – continued meeting separately on Sundays, but followed the same teaching program and sharing all other events, leaders and teachers, so functioning as one church.
Around 1995 the Quakers Hill congregation closed, as another Baptist church had been planted in that area, so our members went back into the other two Westview congregations until 2005. In that year it was decided to bring these two groups together as one congregation, meeting in the Doonside Centre, an arrangement which continues to the present time.
The church has enjoyed the blessing of God since the outset – usually counted from 1978 – a Bible-based community, seeking to be a working model of the Kingdom of God, with a plural leadership team, making decisions by consensus, and encouraging all members to use their gifts as always ‘on mission’, announcing the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the King of Creation and soon-coming Judge of all humankind, and the opportunity He offers freely, right now, to acknowledge His Lordship, receive His mercy and forgiveness, and come under His saving Rule in a community of His people.

What we believe?
The church and its members individually hold the following doctrines:
- The Holy Scriptures are inspired by the Holy Spirit and are the final authority for faith and living.
- The Trinity of the Godhead.
- The Deity and full humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The Deity and true personality of the Holy Spirit.
- The sinfulness of humanity and their responsibility for their revolt against God's law.
- God's prior electing grace for faith and salvation, and human responsibility for their response to the Divine requirements of repentance and faith.
- Christ's atonement for His Church.
- Conversion is that work of the Holy Spirit by which He enables those who are dead in their trespasses and sins to repent, believe and live.
- The church as the body of regenerate believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The priesthood of all believers.
- The baptism of believers only by immersion.
- The ordinance of the Lord's Supper as instituted by Christ Himself.
- The visible bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ in power and great glory.
- The resurrection of the dead - the just to eternal life and the unrighteous to eternal punishment.
All members should share their views with the church in humility and love, while at the same time accepting that others may differ from them, so that no harm is done to the unity of the Spirit or the bond of peace.
